There are truly only a handful of "elite" wide receivers in the NFL. While there are a lot of very talented wide outs, when it comes to a fantasy league, there are three critical factors I use when determining the true value of a receiver: 1) the talent of the receiver, 2) the talent of the QB throwing him the ball and 3) the other weapons surrounding the wideout. Accordingly, I will divide the three receivers into categories where they cover all three criteria, 2/3 or just 1/3.

The Must-Haves

The top-end receiver is a must-have, because he will give you the fantasy numbers regardless of who is delivering the ball to him. Last year, Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals still managed 90 catches and 1100+ yards despite having Derek Anderson, John Skelton, Max Hall and Richard Bartel under center at different points of the year. None of these QBs had a rating over 66, yet Fitzgerald managed the top 10 in yards and top 5 in catches. With Kevin Kolb at the helm this year, who I believe should have a big year, Fitzgerald should be among the league leaders in most receiving categories. He would be my number one receiver if it weren't for Andre Johnson.

Johnson, of the Houston Texans, was in the top 10 last year for yardage, and finished only 4 catches behind Fitzgerald, despite playing three less games, and playing most of the season with a high ankle sprain. He and QB Matt Schaub have been a one of the best 1-2 connections the last couple seasons, with Schaub averaging over 4500 yards through the air over that span. Johnson is healthy, Schaub is Schaub, and this wide out should be your #1 target for your first receiver.
